Tamil Association of Nigeria( TAMAN) is an organization functional since 1984. It was established with the prime objective to serve the people of Tamil population living in Nigeria. From 1980’s TAMAN evolved over the years to keep pace with a rapidly changing Nigeria. Used to gather Tamil people all around the corner of Nigeria and conducted activities such as cultural, sports, spiritual and other aesthetics activities in order to unite the community. At one point of time during early 90’s Nigeria witnessed a rapid political change over, Armed rebellions and chaos. During those tough period of time TAMAN remained dormant. Hence, new set of team started and functioning TAMAN in the name of Dravidar Sangam from 1995 onwards. Dravidar Sangam played a crucial role in laying the foundation of Murugan Temple in Lagos. Also played a significant role during the Kargil war in order to raise the fund and support our motherland India. From the early 2000 onwards TAMAN remains the one place on Nigeria where all TAMIL can gather together, discuss common problems, and find shared solutions that benefit all Tamilians. After 2014, TAMAN established itself as broad forum and included all set of people around Nigeria and brought the opportunity of participation and started conducting the activities in to the main screen. It was the period when TAMAN become a democratic body and offered the chance to anybody to contest to become office bearers. Eventually it led to the Elections during May 2022. Now, more than 40 years later, TAMAN elections took place and the new office bearers were chosen democratically by the people of Tamil living in Nigeria. The new TAMAN team is ready to safeguard the peace and security, give humanitarian assistance to those in need, protect human rights, and uphold Nigerian law.
